On the 7th day of Christmas

I met up with some book loving queens to discuss Passing by Nella Larsen.

This book was adopted into a movie on Netflix that came out recently.

On a scale of 1 to 5, I gave it a 1.

The writing was scattered and hard to follow. The tone of the book seemed to dip in and out between third person and wanting to be first person. I didn’t like the characters or the story.

I didn’t like anything about it.

  1. While I didn’t read the book, I did see the movie. I was not impressed. I liked the look of the movie as it was in black and white. It gave it an old Hollywood feel. I do enjoy old movies on occasion. This movie could have been real intense and captivating. It wasn’t. It fell way short in my opinion. And while I stayed until the end, I found myself wanting the movie to hurry to get there. I give it a 3.

    1. i’m a sucker for an old movie but i had no interest in seeing this one; the subject of passing doesn’t really appeal to me; from what i’ve heard though, the movie stayed completely true to the book so you’re not missing anything
